A FIRM is hoping to “crush” the opposition with its next-generation appliance.

Chairman of Bourne-based Krushr plc Martin Preen and marketing director Sasha Branch are putting their innovative waste compactor - “there is no other product like it” - at the forefront of domestic recycling, and are set to roll out some 5,000 Krushrs this year, including 3,000 in the UK.

At the Peterborough branch of John Lewis – one of 15 partnerships in which the Krushr is being displayed, as well as via its website, www.JohnLewis.com – Martin explained the support provided by the store and his aims for the product.

He said: “John Lewis is a fantastic British brand and the association with it has even helped us to sell into Europe prior to even launching in the UK market. We have been selling the product in France and Italy, via distributors, for six months and there are now units as far away as New Zealand as well as a few bobbing around on the oceans in luxury boats.

“The Krushr machine gives a customer a minimum of four times more storage for recycling and provides a simple way of segregating your recycling.

“They can be fully integrated in the kitchen and offer the convenience of not having to empty a bin so often which is especially attractive for large families or those living in flats.”

There are four models, namely K150, K250, K400 and K600, the numbers indicating the standard width space in mm, to cover the broad spectrum of customer needs. The range is priced from £399 to £999, which also saves the customer having to buy a cabinet and those sorter bins which fill with one or two milk bottles and will, hopefully, help to encourage the recycling mindset of people both at home and abroad.

They have been designed with the aim of making waste and recycling storage less of an inconvenience.

Sasha added: “We like to think along the lines of Sort Crush Store 4x More.”

The products were completely designed in the UK and are the culmination of the Krushr team’s vision following the problems of dealing with waste at home especially with reduced collections.

“It always fell to me to sort out the ‘rubbish’, and I thought there must be a simpler and more convenient way,” said Martin.

“The challenge was to come up with something generic but flexible enough to suit customers across a global market. The joy now is to see the Krushr available to the public through highly regarded outlets, after five years, too much grey hair and far too many prototypes to mention.”
