A PUB will close for a five-week revamp and reopen with a quirky garage theme.
The Jubilee in North Street, Bourne, will close on Sunday, February 26. It will become known as Jubilee Garage when it reopens on Friday, April 6, which is Good Friday.
As part of the revamp, there will be a new stairwell through the centre of the building to the first floor. On the first floor there will be a 1970s Volkswagen Camper Van as the bar and other features will include garage signs, petrol pumps and vehicle seating.
The pub will also be showing Sky Sports with six new television screens and a new family-orientated menu will be introduced.
The theme was chosen because the building was a garage between the 1920s and 1950s and will be reverting back to a former name.
Operations manager Ross Dykes said he was looking forward to welcoming customers to the new and improved “quirky pub”.
Mr Dykes said: “I think it is a quirky idea and I hope people will like what we are trying to do. It will be very different to what it is now and we will launch with a huge celebration at Easter.
“We want to turn it into more of a venue for families, which can be used all day.
“The menu will be very different from what it is now. We need to make it into a sustainable value for money pub.
“We are conscious that people are spending less nowadays and that will be reflected in the refit.”
Mr Dykes said the revamp was in line with the group’s aim to refit its pubs regularly.
Mr Thurlby also owns Smiths in Bourne, as well as The Periwig, The Tobie Norris and The Crown Hotel in Stamford, The Lord Nelson in Oakham, The White Hart in Ufford and The Exeter Arms in Easton-on-the-Hill.
Mr Dykes said: “There are a couple of things that prompted the refit. It has not been refitted for six years so it is due. The Periwig in Stamford was done about four years ago and we like to keep them up to date.
“We also decided to make it more of a pub so it has a bit of an identity. At the moment it’s a restaurant during the day, a pub in the evening and a nightclub at night and the upstairs doesn’t get used during the day.
“We always look to invest in our businesses and I think it will be worthwhile.”
