Santa comes just once a year but this year hundreds of Santas will descend on Burghley Park for a brisk run with the aim of giving to good causes.

The ninth annual Stamford Santa Fun Run is back on Sunday, December 13, at 11.30am.

Once again organised by the Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley, the event raises hundreds of pounds not just for the Rotary but for the charities individuals and teams choose to support.

The event is now a highlight of the area’s festive calendar and Rotary spokesman Jon Whowell said he was looking forward to seeing lots of people taking part once again.

He said: “We’ve had a few sign up but this is a popular event in Stamford so we hope more will do so soon.

“We are really hoping to see more than last year.”

As well as serious runners, the event also welcomes joggers, walkers and wheelchair users. Even dogs, as long as they bring their owner, are welcome. People are also 
welcome to watch the spectacle.

Last year, 1,178 runners, including 350 children, entered the event. Making up 90 teams, more than £12,000 was raised for selected charities. This was an increase of 43 per cent on the previous year and organisers hope to build on that again.

Entry fees are £14 for adults and £7 for children 12 years of age and under. The fee includes a free Santa suit, including hat and beard, which is yours to keep.

This year suits will be collected from Borderville Sports Centre, following the closure of the Garden House Hotel which was the usual collection point.

All entrants will receive a medal on completion of the course, and there is also a warming glass of mulled wine and a tasty mince pie to enjoy afterwards.

Children aged four and under are free to enter but no suit will be issued.
