SPEEDING motorists are being targeted in Bourne in a move led by one of the town's community support officers.
PCSO Luke Shepperson joined Adam Booker, headteacher at The Willoughby School, to take speed readings outside the school on Monday.

PCSO Shepperson said: "We clocked a couple of cars coming down the road at 40mph plus."

The pair showed students at the school the speeds recorded and Mr Booker called for a lower limit.

He said: "It's dangerous.

"There will be an accident at some point. Now that Bourne is busier something needs to be done.

"We should be dropping the speed limits. Outside every school there should be 20mph zones during peak hours.

"Drivers who saw the officer's jacket and speed gun dramatically reduced their speed. Once we had been seen, cars were flashing at each other as a warning."

PCSO Shepperson said it was the start of a campaign to reduce speed outside schools along the road.

He said: "Next time I will be going with a traffic officer and we will enforce the limit.

"Speeding is the main concern I hear about. We had about 20 complaints in the last few months."

PCSO Shepperson is collecting figures to persuade Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership that more measures are needed.

He said: "I am working with the highways department to get interactive signs and a 20mph limit."
