A COMMITTEE has launched a last attempt to find land to build a skatepark on before it gives up on its dreams.
Dimension Skatepark Committee, which has been trying to build a skatepark in Bourne since 2003, has written to every developer in the town in the hope of securing a plot for the park on a new housing scheme.
But police community support officer Gr
aeme Parrott, who is on the committee, said that if there was no land available the committee would have no choice but to give up on its plans.
He said: "We don't want to pull out without the evidence that we have done absolutely everything we can.
"If we can't get a piece of land the project would have to cease and at the moment we can't see that there is any land available."
Officer Parrott said the committee had already received some replies from developers saying there was no land to accommodate a skatepark when it met on Tuesday night.
It is hoping to receive some more positive responses when it meets again in February.
He said: "It is very disappointing but the most promising ones are the ones we haven't had replies back from yet so there is still hope.
"We are not giving up just yet and if anyone has any land they should get in touch with us immediately."
The committee had hoped to build the park on the Recreation Ground in Recreation Road but South Kesteven District Council held back from agreeing a lease because of concerns over health and safety. The district council has recently agreed to transfer responsibility of the Recreation Ground in Stamford to Stamford Town Council, which would have paved the way for Bourne Town Council to negotiate a similar deal.
But while this has been happening, the boundaries for how close a playarea can be to houses has changed, meaning the Bourne Recreation Ground is no longer viable.
The committee has been told it can only apply for grants once it has a long-term lease agreement.
Anyone with land available should contact town clerk Nelly Jacobs on 01778 426123.
