Bookworms discuss novels at book club in Haconby
BOOKWORMS are stepping out of their comfort zones to discuss novels they wouldn’t normally choose to read.
A book club was re-launched in Haconby during the autumn to provide a place for people to share their love of the written word.
Villager Sally Burton formed the group when another one closed and gave it a new base at the local pub, the Hare and Hounds.
The club currently has about 12 members who come from Haconby and surrounding villages.
Sally said: “During the meeting we spend an hour or so talking about the book we have just read and then discuss what we are going to read next.
“I definitely enjoy the discussion. It makes you think more about what you are reading rather than just putting a book down and forgetting about it.”
At the meeting last week members welcomed local author Jane Minshall, who writes under the name Jae De Wylde, to give an insight into her novel The Thinking Tank.
The group had read the book and were thrilled to have the chance to go behind the scenes and learn more about the way it was written.
Jae, who lives in Morton, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the feedback I received from the group was invaluable. It provided great fodder for my next novel.
“I was delighted to be invited by the group and am always happy to be grilled by reading groups who kindly choose to read The Thinking Tank.”
Club members are currently reading The Importance of Being Myrtle, by Ulrika Jonsson, which they will discuss at their next meeting.
It takes place on Thursday, March 15, at 7.30pm at the Hare and Hounds in Haconby. Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to go along.
The group usually meets on the third Thursday of every other month at the pub.
