Club's way with words helps cancer charity
BOURNE and District Scrabble Club presented a cheque for £250 to the local Macmillan Cancer Support on Tuesday, February 10.
Chairman Betty Benton said that in keeping with the club's tradition, they were again supporting a local charity.
She told the fundraising manager of Macmillan Cancer Support, Gemma Dixion: "We are only a small club and the money we raise comes from the two national tournaments we run every year. The members like to give the money to local groups where we feel it will make a difference.
"This year we raised money specifically in memory of Maureen Rayson who has always been a staunch supporter of our tournaments, and who received excellent care from the Macmillan service during her battle with cancer".
Gemma Dixon thanked the group and said the money would be put to good use providing help and support to patients and their families by
providing money for incidental expenses such as travel costs and that small amounts of money often made a significant difference.
The club meets every Tuesday evening at 7pm in the Methodist Church Hall, Bourne, and new members would be made very welcome.
You can contact Betty Benton on 01780 425234 or just go along on any Tuesday evening.
