MAY MEETING - The recent Bourne Arthritis Support Group coffee morning raised £174.78 and members were thanked by chairman, Margaret Senior for all their help in making it such a success.
She also said that an outing to Great Yarmouth had been organised for June 11.

The speaker for the afternoon was group member Ron Stevens who spoke about Looking Back.

His talk brought back memories of life in the 1920s and 1930s up to the Se
cond World War.

He was born in Wolverton, a small railway town in Buckinghamshire where a large number of people were employed in the railway works, bread was delivered from a horse drawn cart and milk was bought from a churn and put straight into the recipient's jug.

Christmas was very simple with only very small presents for the children and the entertainment was provided by family parties and singing around the piano.

There were very few cars on the road and children could play safely in meadows full of flowers and could search for birds' nests in the hedgerows.

Although there was very little money in those days he felt that life in general was much richer.

It was a more caring society and people helped one another and took pride in their country.

The next meeting will be on Thursday June 4 at 2pm in Meadow Close when speaker June Barton will talk about Privies, Pigsties and Old Coppers.

New members are always welcome, contact Margaret Senior on 01778 393731.
